Our SEND Local Offer

All children are valued, respected and welcomed to the school whatever their additional educational need. We aim for a curriculum where learning activities can be undertaken at a variety of levels and in a variety of different ways that are tailored to meet the individual needs of the child.

We will support a child with their learning and development, and ensure that they are fully included in all school activities, whilst helping them to appreciate and build on their individual strengths and social independence.

We make every effort to identify, assess, support and review pupils' special educational needs in line with the SEN Code of Practice and target early intervention to maximise and unlock their potential at the earliest opportunity. We make full use of externally provided facilities and support services where appropriate and regularly signpost parents to local services and work with them to identify the next steps for their child.

We are committed to narrowing the attainment gap between SEND and non SEND children. Quality-first teaching is always the first strand of support for children as we strive to ensure that universal provision meets the needs of all children through our teaching strategies, resources and environment. Sometimes, some children will benefit from targeted support; this may include learning interventions developed on an individual needs basis. Below is a list of some examples of targeted support that are available to the children.

Precision teaching

Precision teaching, which is a precise and systematic method of evaluating instructional tactics and curricula, is designed to support children's fluency and recall of core knowledge e.g. number facts, whole-word recognition etc.

Small group additional phonics interventions are designed to support children with the tools to decode, before building fluency and the ability to comprehend and question independently. These activities are carefully chosen to ensure that the children develop their skills in aural discrimination and phonemic and rhyme awareness, blending and segmenting as well as grapheme-phoneme correspondence.

Write Dance

Write Dance is an approach and method that provides movement opportunities so the children can develop the physical skills needed to develop their handwriting. The movements are designed to help children feel happy and comfortable with their bodies, improving their motor skills and providing a strong foundation for writing.

Lexia is a research-proven computer-generated program that provides explicit, systematic, personalised learning for children of all learning abilities in the six areas of reading instruction, targeting skill gaps as they emerge, and providing teachers with the data and child-specific resources they need for individual or small-group instruction.

Dynamo Maths

Dynamo Maths is underpinned by research and is evidence-based program that identifies and supports children who are at risk of developmental dyscalculia or  who are performing significantly below their peers in maths. Once an individual assessment is made the profile shows the child’s strengths and areas of challenges so that a bespoke approach to re-positioning the development of the child’s sense of number can begin.

Speech and Language Therapy (SALT)

Ebbsfleet Green buys into a Speech and Language Therapy Service. Where a child has been screened by school staff using Language Link, and the result indicates that therapy may be required, the SENCO will make a referral to Speech and Language. Some children require intensive SALT, whilst others require a few sessions. The therapist will always provide a programme. This programme will be followed in school and there is an expectation that it will also be followed at home, in order for the best possible outcome.
