The Local Academy Council - Transition Board

The Trust Board has also chosen to delegate governance functions (through the Scheme of Delegation) to Local Academy Councils.

Councils meet at least 4 times every academic year and are focused on ensuring the school’s School Development Plan is progressing, driving up the performance of the school each and every year and safeguarding.   The LAC are kept informed of wider school issues including finance, estates and policy compliance.

Local Academy Councils perform a key role in ensuring that our schools are providing the best possible education for every child, year in, year out.

A transition board has been established to undertake the work of the Local Academy Council for an initial period of 12 months.  The Trust Board will be reviewed at the end of the term and will determine if a LAC is put in its place and managed in accordance with the Scheme of Delegation.

Scheme of Delegation

The Scheme of Delegation is one of the most important documents after the Articles of Association for Trust’s.  This formally sets out the delegated authority to committees, Local Academy Councils and executive leaders.  The main document (the Scheme of Delegation) also contains 5 appendices;

Appendix 1 - Decision Making Guidelines and Matrix

Appendix 2 - Code of Conduct for Local Academy Councils

Appendix 3 - Terms of Reference for the Local Academy Council

Appendix 4 - Job Description and Person Specification for a Councillor Vacancy

Appendix 5 - RASCI for Governance and Accountability
